OKI Cuts CO2 Emissions by 17 Percent at its Facility

OKI Data Corporation is all set to reduce the amount of energy used in its offices. The company has announced that its European Manufacturing Facility, OKI (News - Alert) Ltd., has reduced its use of electricity by roughly 600k kWh.

Oki Data Corporation specializes in the design, development, manufacture, and marketing of business printing solutions. This allows the companies to communicate more effectively, claims OKI.

To reduce electricity, OKI Limited took various measures such as integrating the facility with its server functions, halving the number of servers required; using inverters, the facility reduced fan speeds in the air conditioning units for the production hall; and installing master switches for the production hall that make it possible to turn off lights and air-conditioning simultaneously. Also, to control temperature based on food temperature, not air temperature, the company installed refrigerator devices.

“In 2008, we established an environmental strategy that called for cutting CO2 emissions generated from all OKI Data activities 6 percent by FY2012, relative to the figure for FY2007," said Harushige Sugimoto, president of OKI Data Corporation. "OKI Ltd., which we established in 1987, moved to a new purpose-built facility in November 2005. We took advantage of this opportunity to transform the environmental performance of the facility.”

OKI understands that the key area for reducing environmental impact is electricity. The new facility uses 2.8 million fewer kWh annually than the previous facility, the company has announced. With measures such as shortened operating hours, enhanced efficiency, and optimized lighting and air-conditioning, the facility has continued to work to achieve further cuts in electricity usage, the company claims.

Recently, the company announced that OKI Consulting Solutions, a company from the OKI Group that specializes in providing consulting services and solutions has launched a new application known as 'TweetLine@saigai'. The new application is readily accessible, and will be helpful in offering timely disaster and evacuation information to residents and disaster victims, based on smartphone GPS functions and the Twitter service.
