Juniper Research Reports Green App Downloads to Surge

This particular news is sure to make the environmentalists happy. A report from Juniper Research (News - Alert) suggests that the number of green application downloads is all set to increase in the coming years. This will be caused by high-profile “ecozones” – areas dedicated to green-themed mobile content and apps – such downloads could exceed 400m by 2014, the report said.

The world is slowly waking up to the need of environmental sustainability in the recent years. Also, researches have shown that companies and individuals that opt for green applications can be more productive and profitable, and less polluting.

The green handsets report focuses on estimates of green app downloads, handset recycling rates, no-load energy emissions from handset chargers and green handset shipments. Another major reason for the increase in the number of green downloads is because the industry measures are backed up by heavy media promotion of eco-friendly lifestyles, the report said.

According to report author Windsor Holden, while it is difficult to quantify the scale of the impact that these downloads will have on the environment, they provide the opportunity for consumers to make informed choices about their lifestyles.

“If they so choose, those consumers can then adjust their lifestyles so that their personal direct and indirect CO2 emissions are reduced,” Holden said.

According to the report, the government is also taking some initiatives to reduce personal carbon footprints. This is combines with cases with legislation which penalizes excessive personal – as well as corporate – levels of CO2 emissions. The report makes use of interviews, case studies and analysis from representatives to assess the current and future status of mobile and the environment.

In another study released recently, the company stated that revenues from the sale of business VoIP hardware and software will reach a whopping $5.5 billion by 2007.  The research also revealed that sales will stabilize and fall in revenue terms after 2007 as the Chinese market begins to mature, as the Y2K echo passes and as competition from low cost suppliers in China and India erodes prices.
