More and more companies are transitioning into the
green technology market as a way to branch out company operations while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and bettering the environment.
Ericsson (

Alert), a technology services provider,
was recognized at SUPERCOMM by being selected as the award recipient of “SUPERCOMM EOS Green Services,” for the company’s efforts to help operators reduce energy consumption in IP edge and carrier Ethernet deployments.
Recognizing Ericsson’s contributions to assisting service providers in comprehending the effects of energy conservation and how platform designs impact energy usage, the award commemorates the company’s sustainability in this movement.
John Salak, president of The Salak Group, the organizer of the SUPERCOMM EOS awards, said that 2009 marked the inaugural year for an EOS green services category.
“Ericsson's focus on reducing power consumption and carbon footprint at the network edge and Metro Ethernet was highly deserving of the honor and is an important contribution in reducing telecom's impact on the environment,” Salak said.
In June, Ericsson had Iometrix (

Alert), a testing authority, conduct a series of lab tests to substantiate the new metrics and assess the power consumption of the Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-Service Edge Router and SM Metro Ethernet platform.
According to Ericsson, the results of the tests may set a new benchmark for industry leading power consumption. And, with the recent green technology award, the company’s aggressive efforts will hopefully continue to impact the green market and improve on energy consumption.
In other Ericsson news, the company
recently announced an additional recognition, further solidifying the company’s effects on the industry.
The company was also awarded a 2009 TMC (

Alert) Labs Innovation Award by Technology Marketing Corporation, for the second year in a row, for the company’s various platforms. In 2008, Ericsson won the award for its SmartEdge 1200 multi-service edge router, which to date, the company is still working with and perfecting for its green technology interfaces.
