TANDBERG's System Helps Amey Cut Down on Carbon Emissions

TANDBERG, a provider of telepresence, high-definition video conferencing and mobile video products and services, has reportedly announced that its systems have enabled Amey, a public services company from the United Kingdom in cutting down 40,000 kilos of carbon emissions and saving 180,000 GBP in the first year of the use itself.

Amey has presence at 200 sites across the United Kingdom, from where it manages and supports the vital infrastructure and public services. The company's 11,000 employees need to travel extensively for carrying out its operations, and 80% of its carbon footprint accounts for travel and transport.

The company selected TANDBERG's video conferencing solutions to implement a new way of working in order to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce the safety risks associated with constant travelling.

Additionally, Amey created the “VMeetings” so that its staff could schedule virtual meetings and register attendees through its intranet. Its employees deployed the solution to capture government data and use it to calculate overall costs and carbon savings.

The company installed various Edge 95s and 1700 MXPs offered by TANDBERG, in addition to its Management Suite. The technology provided by TANDBERG is the backbone of Amey's smarter working initiative, and has helped it in saving considerable amount of money and time. In fact, the system has been such a great success within Amey that the company has calculated an estimated 78% return-on-investment on the technology.

Keith Sexton, Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, Amey, said that lots of people were driving long distances for fairly short, routine meetings and the company finally worked on a system that will drive productivity and increase safety while reducing Amey's carbon footprint.

Apart from cutting down Amey’s carbon emissions and travelling costs, TANDBERG's video conferencing systems have also helped the company in improving its employees' safety and work-life balance, which has enhanced their productivity and the company's internal communication levels.

For example, Mel Ewell, Amey’s CEO now updates his colleagues every six weeks on the company's progress. Ewell said that TANDBERG's video conferencing technology has made Amey a far more efficient organization and has enhanced its ability to communicate as a company. He added that the technology not only allows the company to drive sustainability but helps to ensure the safety of its employees.

In May, TANDBERG received a joint interoperability test command, or “JITC,” certification from the Federal government, which made the company the only video teleconferencing provider with total system certification including endpoints, infrastructure and management platform. Later, the company started shipping its PrecisionHD USB camera in September 2009. The camera is the first webcam to offer 720p high definition with 30 frames per second and is interoperable with Microsoft (News - Alert) OCS.
