Misys Open Source Solutions, a dealer in the development of open source projects to create new services and applications,
has announced that organizations can easily and effectively manage the requirements set forth by the Carbon Reduction Commitment in the United Kingdom by using its newly released Misys Environmental Trading Platform (METP).
United Kingdom’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a mandatory emissions reduction scheme expected to affect about 5,000 non-energy intensive private and public organizations that account for ten percent of the country’s carbon emissions. UK has started an initiative to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and as part of that the CRC has required these organizations to report the amount of carbon they have released and starting from the year 2013 they will also have to reduce emissions year-on-year.
METP is claimed to be the robust carbon trading platform for the CRC and features accurate management of carbon liability tracking and allowance trading. METP works as a web-based software application that gives organizations complete management autonomy over trading and compliance liabilities.
John Winn, senior solutions manager of Misys Open Source Solutions, said that the METP is designed to help organizations quickly comply by providing data collection, carbon planning and liability calculation.
Misys has already contracted
Green 2020, a UK-based global environmental and energy consultancy with focus on supply chain carbon management, to distribute METP to the UK public sector. Green 2020 views METP as a tool that organizations can use to have complete management autonomy over their unique trading and compliance liabilities because their platform automates the trading process, which has most commonly been done by using paper spreadsheets.
Green 2020 stated though there are many other carbon calculators and spreadsheet- based carbon trading tools available, METP differs from them by having a dynamic trading mechanism that interfaces with energy management systems and carbon footprint calculators, such as Green 2020’s web-based system Carbonalysis.
Officials have acknowledged that METP facilitates extensive and accurate data capture and provides the verifier with full access and transparency to companies’ trades.
Misys said it is also planning to debut the platform at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December, alongside The Climate Registry, a tool that will help develop the next generation of online emissions reporting.
