CDI is sponsoring a Free Technology Waste Disposal Day in conjunction with the Rhode Island Society of Technology Education, or “RISTE.” The event will be held on October 27, 2009 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative, a public, non-profit educational institution. CDI is North America’s largest supplier of refurbished, brand name computers to the educational market.
According to Saar Pikar, General Manager, CDI, they are proud to play a role to foster a cleaner, greener and more sustainable planet. CDI sees the Free Technology Waste Disposal Day as an easy way to create a win-win situation for schools and the environment.
Pikar also said that CDI is proud to be one of the sponsors of this event and is planning to participate in similar beneficial events in the future. CDI aims to increase the availability of computers for students while reducing technology spending. More than 9,000 U.S. schools have taken advantage of CDI’s service, longer-than-new warranty, brand name selection and customized financing.
The event is open to all private and public school districts in Rhode Island. Area school districts will benefit from the event since it provides them a free and easy way to dispose of their technology waste. In order to encourage participation, CDI is giving away a free notebook computer to the district with the highest weight in recycled equipment.
The event will benefit the state of Rhode Island by lowering the amount of technology waste that flows into its landfills. CDI will take the disposed equipment, break it down, and then recycle or reuse the parts after the event. This process results in a close to 0% landfill rate.
According to Norm Chapman, Executive Director of RISTE, CDI this event is important for Rhode Island's technology directors and coordinators who participate, because they desperately require a reliable means of clearing their closets of piles of obsolete equipment.
RISTE is a not-for-profit association whose purpose is to promote education technology in Rhode Island K-12 schools. An affiliate of the International Society of Technology Educators, RISTE provides leadership, support and training for K-12 educational technology leaders.
