Green Technology -Telehouse Europe Reaches Key Milestone in Datacenter Construction

Telehouse Europe has reportedly announced that the final bolt for its Telehouse West datacenter has been put into place.

As part of the recent ‘topping out’ ceremony, staff gathered on the top floor of the nine-storey building to witness Mitsui, managing director, Telehouse Europe, tighten the last of 57,334 bolts used in the construction of the state-of-the-art facility. Telehouse West is due for completion in March 2010.

The company officials said that the datacenter will provide 19,000 square meters of secure storage space for U.K. businesses and will act as a connection hub to more than 60 available carriers and over 300 ISPs, allowing customers to choose the service that best suits their needs.

Officials said that the facility will also help companies reduce their carbon footprint by exporting waste heat to help heat nearby homes and businesses in the heart of London’s Docklands. The move will save up to 1,110 tons of CO2 emissions per annum and provide up to nine megawatts of power for the local neighborhood.

“Yesterday represented a significant achievement for all the staff involved in the building of Telehouse West, Mitsui said in a statement. “Construction of the facility has progressed extremely fast since the beginning of the year, which is testament to months of hard work from both Telehouse Europe employees and our contractors.”

Mitsui said that when complete the datacenter will be Telehouse Europe’s flagship European facility.

Telehouse Europe offers data center facilities and connectivity, providing a secure and resilient platform for mission critical IT systems.

Established in 1988, Telehouse became Europe’s first purpose-built neutral colocation provider. Today, the company is at the heart of the Internet and telecommunications infrastructure, serving more than 700 major customers worldwide, from small start-ups to multinationals across a wide range of industries.

It is a subsidiary of Japanese corporation KDDI (News - Alert), a Global 300 company and, with its sister company Telehouse America, is able to offer a global network covering Europe, America and Asia.

Back in July, Telehouse Europe had announced the launch of an online portal www.telehouse.net/en/west for its forthcoming Telehouse West datacenter. The new portal provides a window into Telehouse Europe allowing existing and prospective customers to keep up to date with the progress of the new state-of-the-art facility.

Using the portal interested parties will be able to-review the latest news, products and services; download industry articles; source technical information; view a diary of construction; and watch the site evolve over the coming months via a webcam.
