NEC Display Solutions Fulfills Environmental Commitments, Meets Customer Demands

NEC Display Solutions has reportedly brought together its technology and passion for innovation to fulfill long term environmental commitments while at the same time meeting customer demands.

Estimates have indicated that commercial IT is responsible for 2 percent of the world's CO2 emissions, the same amount caused by global air travel. In industrialized countries like Germany 11 percent of electricity consumption is caused by equipment left in standby mode in households and Europe is seeing increasing amount of electronic waste being generated.

Ian Gobey, NEC (News - Alert) display solutions’ general manager for the Middle East region, said that the usage of consumer electronics has grown exponentially and for all its benefits these electronics products have also yielded an environmental blight in the form of e-waste – obsolete electronics equipment whose toxic materials and sheer volume are placing a strain upon solid waste management systems worldwide. Researches have also indicated that the e-waste crisis will only worsen in the coming years.

NEC Display Solutions said that it is designing new eco-friendly products and solutions and has based its Green Vision campaign on green productivity and green sustainability.

NEC’s Green Productivity is its commitment to produce efficient products that consume less power and lasts longer, thereby reducing electronic wastes. For example, NEC Display Solutions recently unveiled its standard and short-throw projectors which are equipped with lamps that can last 1,000 hours more than their predecessors. NEC’s new MultiSync EA222WMe will be the company’s first monitor to feature white LED backlights which use up to 50 percent less energy than conventional backlights.

Green Sustainability is NEC's commitment to responsible innovation and production and involves materials management as well as packaging and transport. The use of environmentally hazardous substances such as heavy metals and carcinogens is increasingly banned in the manufacture of products. More bio-plastics, along with recycled metal and plastic, are being used.

NEC Display Solutions is planning to use completely recyclable packages materials to pack its solutions. It is also considering reducing the weight of its products and making its display solutions narrower so that the amount of resources used to build the products is brought down.

NEC Display Solutions said that as a manufacturer, it takes its responsibility toward the environment seriously. Officials have set themselves the goal of taking a leading role on the road to an information society in which the needs of people combine with those of their environment.

In other news, NEC Display Solutions unveiled 22-inch MultiSync E222W Eco Friendly Monitor and launched three new enhanced designs for its built-in PCs that can be connected to the NEC public displays via the Option Slot.
