Paradigm Shift For Established Green Reforms

Shortly after a well received Earth Day 2009, Climate Culture has provided thought provoking insights for established green guidelines that should make people and companies want to take a hard relook at these mantras and also consider adding conditions for previously unquestioned and well-intentioned simple green policies.

Company officials cite the first example as the way paper is recycled, not to blindly go ahead and “recycle paper”. It is important to find out where the paper is being recycled and understand that plant’s processes before simply dumping in the ‘recycle paper’ bin. The carbon emissions are significantly reduced when recycling facilities have access to exclusive hydro-electric power, as compared with areas that have electricity supplied by a highly polluting mix of power generation. The same review rule applies for paper bags.
When it comes to newspaper recycling in the future, just do not worry because the industry is packing up and even Warren Buffet would not buy a newspaper company for any price since, he said, they do not have the same pricing power that they used to have, reported TMCnet.
Just because food is supplied from a close by local source and therefore reduces carbon emissions by virtue of implied lesser distances for carrier vehicles to travel, does not mean it is an entirely green solution. The method of producing the food needs to be assessed and the source of the electricity used requires review.
Should a dishwasher be used? Climate Culture advocates that the best way is to use ambient temperature water to wash dishes and smartly regulate the water consumption, not just keep it flowing copiously. In case hot or warm water has to be used, it may be advisable to use the dishwasher since it uses less water than do most human beings for the same function. Again, it is important to find out the source of electricity and the especially the way it is produced. Electricity produced from coal spews huge volumes of carbon related pollutants into the atmosphere and the air we breathe.
Car-pooling is really smart, admits Climate culture, but many single people driving over long distances while attempting to save on airfare may just be making a mistake because such scenarios actually work out costlier per person than the cost of an airline ticket. A World Wide Web way of smart carpooling, reported TMCnet, could be to use Mapflow’s Avego Futurefleet by registering free on its carpooling Web link.
Compact Fluorescent Lamp’s (CFL) actually emit less mercury than traditional incandescent light bulbs because coal-based electricity generation, says company officials, is the single largest source of anthropogenic mercury emissions and CFLs use at least 70 percent less electricity. Discarding the bulbs, too, is safe because the internal mercury lining stays superficially bonded to the glass even after breakage.
Electric cars, too, require the same afore mentioned electric source generation method analysis, lest they actually do more harm than good. However, if the car owners can guarantee 100 percent renewable electricity usage such as solar, wind, and fuel cell energy, then procuring an electric car is spot on.
Do planting trees anywhere and everywhere really save the environment, asks Climate Culture? Planting trees at low altitude and in the tropics are beneficial. Increasing the tree population and density in and around urban areas are really beneficial since these places generally absorb a lot of light. However, planting too many dark colored trees at high altitudes may result in extra heat absorption and add to heating up the earth’s atmosphere.
Motorola recently launched, reported TMCnet, the world’s first mobile phone, called MOTO W233 Renew, which is made mostly out of recycled parts, is Carbon Free Certified, and manufacturing it translates to 20 percent less energy utilized per device than a cell phone manufactured from virgin materials. Hence, the company deems it an ‘environmentally responsible device’ that contributes towards reducing the overall carbon footprint.
However, considering this latest set of paradigms from Climate Culture, specifically with respect to power generation methods, Motorola (News - Alert) could be well advised to relook at the source of electricity supplied to its moulding shops and other manufacturing units.
Claiming green space with MOTO W233 Renew is iGo’s charger product line, reported TMCnet, which uses a single charger for multiple products by simply changing the connector tips.
Climate Culture has partnerships with the US Department of Energy, Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and Carnegie Mellon University's Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment (EIOLCA) program, and claims to be committed to providing consumers with accurate and personalized information on how to reduce their carbon footprint with the aid of their large green database.
