"MTS Allstream (

Alert) is widely recognized across Canada as a socially and environmentally responsible company," said Pierre Blouin, Chief Executive Officer, MTS Allstream.
Blouin added that not only does the company strive to reduce its collective carbon footprint and practice green methods, but it also helps its customers, employees and stakeholders to go green.
MTS employees participated in an office supply exchange program as part of the Earth Day celebrations. Workers across the country sorted out nearly new and unneeded office supplies and exchanged them with workers who would require them. This reduces the need to buy newer materials and unused materials are recycled and reused instead of getting dumped in landfills. The company also said all remaining supplies will be donated to schools for the start of the 2009-2010 school years.
In addition, as a member of the One Million Acts of Green initiative, MTS Allstream employees have contributed over 15,000 Acts of Green towards the goal. Green Acts include simple habits like turning of a light bulb when exiting a room or driving fuel efficient vehicles or using public transportation.
MTS Allstream also said that the company participates in these green acts by following a policy of greener building construction and renovation, formulating a no-idling policy for fleet vehicles, purchasing hybrid and flex-fuel vehicles, and implementing comprehensive office recycling programs.
MTS Allstream is also committed to helping its customers make positive differences for the environment. Cell phone, battery, charger and headset recycling is available at all MTS Connect stores in Manitoba. And E-billing initiatives are reducing the use of paper, while the Workplace 2.0 tele-working program is being used by MTS Allstream customers and employees to telecommute and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
