Miercom Certifies Avaya Unified Communications and Contact Center Solutions "Certified Green"

The Unified Communications (News - Alert) and Contact Center solutions from Avaya have received "Certified Green" status by Miercom, an independent testing organization. The certification implies that Avaya (News - Alert) Communication Manager-based networks are environmentally friendly.

In a large company, the endpoint devices generally end up consuming substantial energy. However, even a small change or reduction in the consumption of energy from these devices will not only save costs for the company, but it will also contribute to the environment in a considerable way. This will also improve the durability of an endpoint.

Before granting the certification, Miercom carried on a rigorous, hands-on testing in a lab environment of three model Avaya Communication Manager 5.1 networks under various loads and conditions. The testing conditions are usually found in mid-sized businesses, campus environments and large distributed offices with contact centers.

“Miercom is pleased to recognize Avaya for achieving the Certified Green Standard for their Enterprise UC solution, which was recently reviewed," said Robert Smithers, CEO, Miercom. "Avaya's innovation is truly commendable in that they have built sustainable benefits into their products, while at the same time demonstrated responsible environmental practices in production and in the conduct of their business.”

The Miercom reports for Campus (2000 user) and Large Distributed Office (5000 user) configurations states that Avaya Communication Manager 5.1 IP PBX (News - Alert) platform, augmented with Avaya Modular Messaging and Avaya Meeting Exchange for conferencing offers efficient communication for the companies. As it also reduces business travel with effective multi-media services, it makes an affordable alternative to large office complexes also available.

The report also states that the Avaya 8300 server embedded in a G450 gateway as it offers improved efficiency with double the capacity in a smaller footprint.

Avaya says that its unified communication and contact center solutions are already offering companies greener options. The company recently launched a website for companies to calculate their carbon emissions with a green calculator and offered them suitable advices to cut them down. The tool calculates savings in kilowatt energy consumption, carbon emissions and gasoline consumption in both English and metric units.
