Phihong Intros New Energy-Efficient Global Adapter

Phihong USA, a power solutions supplier, has just launched its PSA18R-120P, an 18W interchangeable plug adapter, which the company says is energy efficient and offers worldwide compatibility for OEM applications, including wireless communications, peripherals, portable equipment, and networking equipment.

 

The new adapter adheres to the new, more stringent ENERGY STAR EPS 2.0 requirements. The aim of the ENERGY STAR (News - Alert) external power supply specification is to recognize those models with an efficient ac-ac or ac-dc conversion process. Here, every product must meet all of the defined criteria if it is to be qualified as ENERGY STAR by its manufacturer. The EPS 2.0 requirement was effected recently on November 1, 2008.

Phihong has been dealing with power supplies, adapters, and Power-over-Ethernet products, to networking OEMs. With global sales for 2008 expected to exceed $550 million, Phihong has its engineering and manufacturing units in North America, Taiwan and mainland China.

 

The newly launched PSA18R-120P is available with four interchangeable AC plugs that make it compatible with all power outlets throughout the world. This global compatibility also allows for the use of a single part number, which simplifies an OEM's inventory and approvals.

 

Phihong also clarified that the new adapter is also in compliance with the United States' EISA no-load and active mode energy efficiency requirements.

 

The PSA18R-120P is Class II double-insulated and features Class B (News - Alert) EMI compliance, as well as a no-load power consumption of <0.3W. The adapter is rated to operate between 0 degrees and 40 degrees C. Its output is equipped with short-circuit protection with an auto restart feature. The adapter also bears cULus, TUV, CE, CCC, SAA, C-Tick, PSE, BSMI, and PSB safety markings and approvals.

 

Measuring just 2.82 inches in length by 1.97 inches in width, the adapter stands 1.31 inches high. The barrel output connector, which measures 2.1 mm by 5.5 mm, is affixed to a 6 foot long DC output cord. Each unit weighs 6 ounces.

 

The new PSA18R-120P adapter is priced at $10.23 per unit at OEM quantities.
