Calypso and McLane Trademark Solar Panel Manufacturer

Calypso Communications and McLane Law Firm of Manchester have entered into an agreement to brand and trademark a Greek solar panel manufacturer.

Calypso Communications provides organizations with strategic marketing communication services, including new media solutions, public relations, annual report and speech writing, crisis management, web design and development, survey research, and graphic design and print services.

McLane Law Firm deals in trademark counsel, selection, clearance and prosecution, policing and enforcement, domain name disputes and trademark licensing.

The thin film photovoltaic panels made by the Athens, Greece-based company was named and branded by Calypso and trademarked by McLane. The companies claim that they market this company because of their emphasis on energy sector. The product was then debuted in September in Valencia, Spain, at a European international trade show.

Photovoltaic cells produce electricity directly from sunlight. A thin film photovoltaic panel includes a backcap for protecting the active components of the photovoltaic cells from adverse environmental elements. Spacing between the backcap and a top electrode layer is preferably filled with a desiccant to further reduce water vapor contamination of the environment surrounding the photovoltaic cells.

“A coherent brand platform is essential for any client, particularly in the international space,” remarked Kevin Stickney, co-founder of Calypso. “With the globalization of markets and the accelerated growth of competition, companies are increasingly expanding the geographic scope of their operations. Fragmentation is high, and branding can be challenging.”

The newly-minted HelioSphera is now a producer of high-efficiency micromorph thin film PV modules and the companies claim that it represents the collaborative success for Calypso and McLane in guiding clients through the complexities of international branding and trademark clearance.

Mark Wright, chair of McLane’s Intellectual Property group, says, “It’s incredibly rewarding to help a company launch a product that really matters. At McLane, we have an outstanding intellectual property practice, so this collaboration was a good fit for us in many ways.”
