Green Technology -American Pets Going Green

As more and more people 'go green' to environmentally responsible, another healthy way to go green is emerging is through nutrition. But eating green does not apply to people alone. A national survey conducted by Kelton Research shows 79 percent of dog and cat owners are including more nutrition from green foods in their pets' diets. These pet owners said they believed in green nutrition for their pets and would consciously choose pet food products that include it.

The survey also found that while 90 percent of American dog and cat owners believe in the importance of green nutrition for their own diets, only 37 percent of those surveyed actually include it in their food.

The study reveals that women are more likely to improve their green deficit. In comparison, 43 percent of women pet owners said they would improve their consumption of green food versus 32 percent of the men.

Age also plays an important role in the tastes of pet owners. For example those 45 and older tend to include more green nutrition in their diets, compared to their 18 to 44 year old counterparts (50 percent vs. 34 percent).

Other facts identified by the survey are that younger pet owners are more enthusiastic about green nutrition for their pets. Also, 84 percent of survey respondents between the ages of 18 and 44 would like to provide more green nutrition for their pets versus 73 percent of their older counterparts.

Providing foods with green nutrition, 14 percent of pet owners believe, is a safe alternative to pets munching on grass or house plants

"While a growing number of health conscious people understand the benefits of including green nutrition in their own diets and in their pets' diets, many simply are unaware of the options available to them," says Bell Rock Growers Co-founder Catherine Hoffmann. "To make the leap from a good idea to a good habit, education and convenience is key."
