Green Technology -Unisys Manages 2008 RNC from "Green" Facility

When Republicans gather next week to voice their party’s opinions, they will need a little help from their friend – technology. That’s where the Unisys (News - Alert) Corporation comes in.

Unisys, a worldwide information technology services and solutions company, has been selected as the official provider of IT managed services for the Republican National Convention, Sept. 1-4 in St. Paul, Minn. And, they will manage the project from a “green” facility nearby.

“We are pleased to have Unisys, a trusted provider of technology services to government and businesses, as our information technology support provider for this year’s convention, especially given the company’s strong presence in the state of Minnesota,” said Maria Cino, president and chief executive officer of the convention. “With the support of Unisys, our goal this year is to establish a benchmark for the advanced use of IT in support of our national convention.”

Through its services, Unisys is committed to making the convention the most technically advanced convention in Republican Party history. Unisys will provide IT management and support services for more than 500 devices – including laptops, PCs, printers and remote and local servers – used by members of the Committee on Arrangements, which oversees convention operations, as well as by volunteers managing e-mail and other critical administrative tasks.

Unisys will have a full-time staff focused on managing the convention’s IT infrastructure and they will provide services, including equipment installation and changes, help desk and on-site support, as well as project management and vendor coordination.

The server computers supporting the convention will be housed in a remote data center in Eagan, Minn., and will be managed by Unisys professionals. This data center encompasses more than 312,000 square feet and is a three-tiered facility supporting enterprise server and mainframe computer systems.

Unisys recently expanded its Eagan data center, creating an environmentally advanced outsourcing services facility. The facility integrates innovative, sustainable design elements into the building’s interior as well as multiple “green” land-based initiatives outside the facility. The data center’s sustainability features and innovative development plan enhance service delivery for clients while protecting the local environment and surrounding community.

“We are very excited and honored to be chosen for this role with the convention,” said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Federal Systems. “This partnership gives Unisys a great opportunity to showcase our expertise in secure IT outsourcing services to make this major national event a success.”

Unisys provides consulting, systems integration, outsourcing and infrastructure services, combined with powerful enterprise server technology. They specialize in helping clients use information to create efficient, secure business operations that allow them to achieve their business goals.

In December, the company completed construction of its data center. Work on the environmentally advanced data center began in May 2007, with extensive facility renovations. During the construction, Unisys recycled more than 150,000 pounds of building materials, including carpeting, ceiling tiles, conduit and electrical wire. For more information, visit www.unisys.com
