Onset Computer Corporation, a data logger solutions company, has become part of the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR (
News -
Alert) Partnership Program by committing to protect the environment through reduced energy consumption.
Strategies and initiatives required to launch and sustain a formal energy management program for the company's 40,000 square foot facility (located in Bourne, Massachusetts) are being developed and implemented by Onset's in-house energy team.
"Onset is committed to continually improving our management of energy resources, which reduces both operating costs and related forms of pollution," said Nick Lowell, director of engineering for Onset, in a statement. "The very same systems we supply to energy managers, green building consultants, and HVAC contractors all over the world will play a key role in helping us manage our own energy usage. We are proud to be a part of the family of businesses that have partnered with ENERGY STAR."
Using its own Web-based energy monitoring products to monitor electricity consumption and other parameters in various areas of its facility, Onset will gather data that will provide information needed to determine where best to focus on energy reduction efforts. This information will later be used to help verify energy efficiency improvements made as a result.
The company has deployed one of its HOBO U30 Remote Monitoring Systems to track kilowatt hours and air temperature in a section of its building for base-line measurements to improve energy consumption. The measurements are recorded and transmitted to the Internet where energy team members can view and analyze the data on a 24/7 basis.
Onset’s HOBO data logger and weather station products are used around the world in a broad range of monitoring applications, from verifying the performance of green buildings and renewable energy systems to agricultural and coastal research. Onset has sold more than one million data loggers since it was founded in 1981.
