ZigBee Smart Energy Test Harness Launched by NTS

The ZigBee Smart Energy test harness, a device that is expected to form the cornerstone for certification of new SE devices, has been launched by National Technical Systems (NTS (News - Alert)).

The device is a complete certified test harness that supports all Smart Energy clusters and was designed and developed by the High Technology Engineering Service group as an integral part of the assurance of interoperability and proper functionality for all these kinds of products in real deployment situations.

National Technical Systems Inc. is a provider of engineering services and operates one of only two authorized ZigBee test labs.  The ZigBee Smart Energy (SE) Profile defines the standard behaviors of secure, user-friendly in-home devices. These are critical components of emerging energy conservation initiatives that are applied by utility companies across the world and supported by ZigBee member companies.

Through the use of different Energy Portal Services and other SE devices, including thermostats, in-home displays, load controllers, and meters, NTS verified the functionality of its harness and received approval from the ZigBee Alliance as the first ZigBee Certified test harness to completely support all Smart Energy clusters.

The worldwide certification of ZigBee Smart Energy products complements NTS' long-established ZigBee Compliant Platform (ZCP), Manufacturer Specific Profile (MSP), and IEEE 802.15.4 testing services.

"NTS is proud to be the leader in certification for the ZigBee SE profile," commented Osman Sakr, chief technology officer of NTS. "We are very excited about the new opportunities that Smart Energy and ZigBee bring to consumers for both cost savings and energy conservation, and we are happy be a part of a program with such promising potential to benefit the environment."
