Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) has announced the availability of its 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Report which, as the name suggests, underlines the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and presents the main achievements and initiatives undertaken by the company in 2007.
Patricia Russo (News - Alert), CEO of Alcatel-Lucent shared in a Thursday statement: “Corporate social responsibility has become a business imperative. For Alcatel-Lucent, CSR is not merely a set of policies: it is a key component of the company's business strategy.”
“Going forward we will continue to strengthen CSR (News - Alert) within our company to meet the expectations of our shareholders, our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we conduct business," Russo added.
The report highlights specific areas, including the company’s approach to the environment, which is central to Alcatel-Lucent’s CSR strategy. The company has established that it is dedicated to meeting its customers’ demands for eco (News - Alert)-efficient products and solutions.
Alcatel-Lucent takes the position that it actively addresses eco-sustainability and climate change issues throughout the entire supply chain. In line with these commitments, the group became a signatory in 2007 to the UN Global Compact's "Caring for Climate" initiative and is resolved to reduce its carbon footprint.
Alcatel-Lucent as also taken a strong position in responsible purchasing as the company has set high expectations for other organizations in its global supply chain. Alcatel-Lucent views CRS as an active partnership and has adopted a purchasing approach that engages suppliers in these efforts.
The company also draws on its innovation expertise to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for economic and social development in emerging economies through the use of communications technologies.
Acting as a corporate citizen, Alcatel-Lucent engages in philanthropic and charitable activities through its Foundation. The Alcatel-Lucent Foundation focuses on education and youth development in the communities where the company’s employees live and work, supporting corporate programs and encouraging volunteerism.
In 2007, Alcatel-Lucent compiled social and environmental data to report on some 60 CSR indicators from across its merged global organization, covering almost 90 percent of the company’s total headcount.
Corporate Social Responsibility should be a primary area of focus for any company that is seeking to improve its standing in the marketplace. Not only is such an approach better for the overall environment, it also helps to create a perception of the company that it cares about the environment that it impacts.
Consumers are making this a key area of consideration when doing business with an organization and those that fail to pay attention to this trend will lose out to businesses that do.
The 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility report is available on Alcatel-Lucent's corporate Internet website, at the following address: http://www.alcatel-lucent.com/csr
