HP Halo Recognized for Environmental Responsibility by EDF

Alert) Solutions will be included in the Environmental Defense Fund’s “Innovations Review 2008: Making Green the New Business as Usual.” This event is EDF’s first annual showcase of promising new trends, best practices, and significant examples of business solutions to environmental challenges.
“EDF’s goal for this inaugural report is to encourage more companies to take action that’s good for the environment and for business,” said Gwen Ruta, vice president, Corporate Partnerships, EDF. “The breakthrough and everyday solutions featured in ‘Innovations Review 2008’ can provide inspiration for others.”
The Innovations Review is expected to be announced at a press conference at EDF’s San Francisco office. Here, HP and other California-based companies are to be recognized for their environmental innovations that have been featured in the report. HP Halo intends to quadruple the number of studios in its facilities on a global level in order to meet increased demands for HP Halo Telepresence Solutions within the company. They estimate that once the global build-out is completed in the latter half of 2009, they will have eliminated over 20,000 annual trips and saved millions in annual travel costs.
Eliminating such trips also avoids CO2 emissions from traveling—an estimated 35,000+ metric tons of CO2, which is the equivalent of the electricity used by 4,700 homes in a year or taking about 6,500 passenger cars out of service for a year.
The build-out gives HP the ability to enjoy the business and environmental benefits associated with Halo without needing additional information technology support staff or upgrades to HP’s corporate network since Halo runs on the dedicated fiber-optic Halo Video Exchange Network. Numerous existing Halo studios within HP are currently used in excess of 130 hours each month.
