Logica announced today that it was honored as one of the Sunday Times’ best “green” companies during a ceremony held in London. The award recognizes Logica’s commitment to engaging with green initiatives and establishing a high internal environmental standard.
Two years ago, Logica took up a number of staff initiatives to encourage energy efficiency at work. The initiatives aimed at making changes to energy management, business travel, waste and recycling.
Logica officials say that as a result of these initiatives, the company could achieve a 10 percent reduction for 2007 total carbon emissions (nearly 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide). This includes 5 percent reductions in its electricity use in its non-data centre offices and significant reductions in the company’s business travel of 30 percent for air and 10 percent for road, respectively. The company also claims that since it provided more environmentally friendly electricity supplies, the company could nearly 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions since November 2006.
The Sunday Times competition seeks to encourage and acknowledge businesses and other organizations that make an effort to improve their environmental performance. Apart from actively reducing its own carbon emissions and improving its energy efficiency through its innovative “Stamp down our Carbon Footprint” campaign, Logica has also been recognized for effectively tackling global warming. By measuring and reporting on Logica’s environmental impact and showing what can be done to reduce it, this campaign also aims at raising the staff awareness of the issues.
While encouraging its clients to achieve their significant business goals, Logica practices sustainable technologies that cut waste and reduce carbon footprint. By sharing its experience, learning and tools, the company demonstrates how working across industries can enable sustainable prosperity.
Bill Floydd, chief financial officer at Logica, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised by the Sunday Times. I want to express my thanks to all my colleagues at Logica, who have collectively helped to ensure that Logica as a company cuts its carbon emissions. For Logica it simply makes good business sense to be energy efficient. Our carbon reduction efforts have allowed us to switch to a greener electricity supply and at the same time, lower our energy bills, which fundamentally impacts the bottom line. These help to increase our competitiveness.”
