Today, the Toyota motor company began taking orders for its newest Prius model, a plug-in gas-electric hybrid car which boasts an immense gas mileage and low electrical requirements. This new “green” vehicle is now the latest craze in the Japanese auto market and will be available in globally in 2012.
On top of that, the vehicle will also be in an affordable price range for the average consumer, starting at $41,000 in Japan, not counting the “green subsidies” which further reduce the price considerably.
The low price is due to a high expectation in production, lowering the cost to the company in selling its cars. Toyota expects to sell 35-40 thousand Prius models in one year, while its expectations globally sit at 60 thousand. The auto company will start releasing vehicles in Japan as early as January 2012. The Prius plug-in’s price will start at $32,000 for US customers and 37,000 Euros for Europeans.
If you’re wondering whether the car is worth its price, consider the fact that it gets 143 miles for each gallon of gas. The savings you’d acquire from this car are phenomenal. You’d also be doing the environment a favor with just above 40 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer.
If you’re just going to the local supermarket and back, you can take advantage of the electrical battery, which provides you with up to 26 kilometers of travelling distance. Remember, the engine runs on gas once it runs out of electrical power.
Unlike many other green cars, this Prius has a five-passenger capacity and spacious baggage compartment. You have all the benefits of a normal gas guzzler inside a neat green package.
