Juniper Networks (News
- Alert) announced the publication of its Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Report.
In a release Mark Bauhaus, executive vice president and general manager, Services, Support and Supply Chain Operations, Juniper Networks, said, “Because Juniper’s solutions underpin the world’s communications infrastructure, we take our responsibility seriously around ensuring that we are doing all we can to reduce risks, increase efficiencies, and lower the total cost of ownership so that people around the globe have access and can truly benefit from the network.”
“We value total network efficiency, which means looking at its entire lifecycle and finding ways to reduce impacts and mitigate the resource and carbon constraints affecting us all,” Bauhaus emphasized.
Some of the report highlights include the benefits of the new network and the steps taken by the company regarding its green IT initiatives, employee development, community engagement, and sustainable best practices for its extended operations.
The report enumerates the advantages of the Home Worker Program which uses Juniper technology to reduce commute congestion and pollution and to keep users connected, productive and safe when weather, illness or other personal commitments make it difficult to travel to work.
Juniper also pledged a multi-year commitment to a non-profit by engaging with the “Not for Sale” initiative which uses the network to connect people and resources to raise awareness of the crimes existing presently regarding worker issues. The Advanced Security Technologies released for mobile devices, including smart phones and iPads, and data centers protects the network and the integrity of the information it carries.
Officials added that Juniper donated $2.5 million to support the development of the new, nationwide 100 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) network for providing advanced networking features for several public institutions. The launch of a new Chipset, Junos Trio chipset ensures less power consumption owing to its lower cooling needs but it features high capacity and throughput.
Similarly the Next-Generation Core Router, Juniper Networks T4000 Core Router consumes just 2.7 watts of power per Gigabit of processed traffic. The New “3-2-1” architecture enables data center networks to reduce the equipment deployed in the data center, from three layers to two and then to one. This helps reduce energy consumption, operational costs and complexity.
Brad Minnis, senior director of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security, Juniper Networks stated, “Juniper is committed to understanding and reducing the impacts of all its operations to make sure that every community in which we have a presence is better off because Juniper is there. We have a history of tackling and finding answers to seemingly insurmountable problems, and we are committed to innovating and being part of the solution to some of the toughest issues facing our world today.”
The report also revealed that Juniper set and met a target to reduce its carbon footprint by five percent for each employee. Also the company reports its emission details via the Carbon Disclosure Project.
