- Alert), the global communication giant has recently announced an initiative to this end.
In a press release, Verizon announced that it is going to organize a Recycling Rally in Richardson (News - Alert), TX, on November 10th. The rally will be from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST. As a part of the event, the employees will gather in the parking lot of the company's Campbell Creek campus at 2400 N. Glenville in Richardson. The event is free and open to the public. Verizon invites the public to come to the venue and drop their unwanted electronics and other material to the Verizon employees for recycling.
The event is part of Verizon's commitment to protect and preserve the environment. Through this event, the company seeks to enable the public to be green at work and at home. To keep with its zero landfill objective, Verizon will ensure that the discarded items do not end up in a landfill. The collected items will be properly disposed off so that they can be reused and recycled.
Verizon provided a list the items that will be accepted at the rally for recycling:
They include glass, plastics and aluminum cans; laptop and desktop computers; televisions; LCD (liquid crystal display) and CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors; computer cables, mice and keyboards; gaming consoles; telephones and answering machines; stereo and audio equipment; paper shredders; alarm clocks; printers; cameras; conferencing equipment; remote controls; earphones; small electronic appliances (such as coffee makers, toasters, toaster ovens and can openers); and electronic toys without batteries. Hard drives will not be wiped.
Hazardous waste materials such as batteries, inks/toners and mercury bulbs will not be accepted. Units containing fluid-like motors and pumps; refrigerators and freezers; medical waste; and radioactive material including X-ray equipment will also not be accepted.
In an effort to punctuate national Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Verizon awarded more than $250,000 in grants to various Florida organizations through the Verizon Foundation and the Verizon HopeLine program. The donations were intended to help victims of domestic abuse.
