Interxion (News - Alert), Europe’s leading provider of energy-efficient colocation data center services, announced that it is building its seventh data center. Called, FRA 7, this new data center is coming up in the company’s Frankfurt campus. The new facility is scheduled to open its doors to customers in the first quarter of 2012.
According to Interxion, the new data center makes up an important component in its growth strategy. In a press release, Interxion clarified that the new facility is being built in response to strong demand for the company’s carrier-neutral data center services in this European market and adds value to Interxion's “Connectivity Hub” of more than 150 carriers and ISPs.
FRA 7 will provide 1,550 sqm of new equipped space to the connectivity-intensive companies, particularly in the digital media, financial services, and cloud service segments. FRA 7 is designed to offer up to 1.5 kVA per sqm of continuous customer load, all of which has been secured, the company claimed in the release.
“We are excited to announce our third new build in Frankfurt in four years, which reflects the strong demand for our carrier-neutral data centre services in this market and our continued focus on prudent capital deployment through our phased expansions to execute our growth strategy.”
Interxion’s future plan involves adding over 9,000 sqm of new equipped space before the middle of 2012 through new facilities and upgrades in key European markets, including Frankfurt, London, Paris, Dublin, Dusseldorf, and Vienna.
In June this year, Interxion announced that it has furthered its commitment to “Go Green” by converting its Belgian data center to use energy only from renewable sources. As a result of such an initiative, the data center will be utilizing only hydroelectric, wind and solar power for all its requirements, the company said in an earlier press release.
