Environmental stewardship is an integral part of the Verizon (News
- Alert) Culture and the company has always been a part of programs that are directed toward reducing carbon emissions, conserving energy, recycling and developing green products. Once again, the company is at the forefront of a Recycling Rally program.
The rally is expected to be held on October 20, 2011 between 7.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT at the Irving Campus, 600 Hidden Ridge (East Building). Verizon has requested the public to drop off unwanted and unused electronic goods at the campus at the specified timings.
In addition to electronic items, Verizon employees will also accept unwanted items of glass, plastic, aluminum cans and any computer or various types of electrical equipment. Electronic toys without batteries are also accepted. Hard drives need to be wiped clean before they are submitted as Verizon will not undertake that task. However, items that include hazardous waste will not be accepted.
The event, which is free and open to the public is part of Verizon's commitment to protecting the environment, as well as its efforts to encourage the public to go green both at home and at work. Verizon's zero-landfill objective will ensure that all these unwanted items are only reused or recycled and don't find their way to a landfill.
In other news, the Verizon foundation known for support various good causes also donates large sums of money to nonprofit agencies to help them address the issue of domestic violence. The company recently donated $35,000 to four nonprofit agencies in Rhode Island area for awareness and prevention programs that engage teens and young adults to steer clear of domestic violence. The grants were awarded at a ceremony on October 4, 2011.
