The national telecommunications company in Canada, TELUS (News
- Alert), has been honored with Tree Canada's Ultimate Award.
TELUS notes that it is one of only two recipients of the award, which was presented by Tree Canada president Michael Rosen to Michael Hennessy, TELUS senior vice-president of Regulatory and Government Affairs, at TELUS House Ottawa.
This honor is given to a partner who has contributed more than $1 million in support towards the stewardship of trees with Tree Canada , a not-for-profit charitable organization established to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees in urban and rural environments.
Both TELUS and Tree Canada have planted more than 300,000 trees across Canada since 1998.
TELUS has been recognized for its effort to green Canadian communities and provide residents with a range of benefits such as clean air and a increased wildlife habitat.
As a team, TELUS and Tree Canada have supported the restoration of forests, supported school greening programs and helped launch the program nationally.
The school greening programs has helped over 450 schools across Canada to create green, healthy and alive outdoor classrooms.
TELUS and Tree Canada have also undertaken urban forest plantings and offered summer and holiday perks programs in 2009 and 2010, which included offering gifts to TELUS customers, with planting a tree as one of the options.
"We are extremely proud to be working with a partner who is so committed to improving communities all across Canada," said Michael Rosen. "We thank TELUS for all their support over the years."
"At TELUS, our give where we live philosophy means that in order to do well in business, we must do 'good' in the communities where we live, work and serve," said Michael Hennessy. "TELUS is committed to supporting the efforts of Tree Canada locally and across the country. The seed of a relationship between TELUS and Tree Canada planted those many years ago has grown into a strong partnership and we are truly honoured to receive their Ultimate Award."
