D-Link (News - Alert) has announced the expansion of its industry-first Green Ethernet
technology series by introducing two new environmentally-friendly small business Gigabit switches.
The switches reduce energy costs through a reduction in power consumption, with no compromise on operational performance and functionality.
By introducing the D-Link DGS (News - Alert)-2200 series 5 and 8 port desktop switches, the company has reiterated its commitment to go 'Green' with its computing. The initiative includes manufacturing environmentally-responsible products, device optimization for ENERGY STAR (News - Alert) certification, as well as designing consumer education and recycling programs.
The company distributes its network technology industry brief that is titled "Green Computing and D-Link: The Green Movement and Specific D-Link Solutions Reduce Detrimental Impacts on the Environment."
D-Link's Green Ethernet switching solutions offer enormous energy savings. When the DGS – 2208 multi-port desktop switch is connected, it can offer up to 80 percent savings in power usage. The other D-Link 'Green Ethernet' switches offer savings of up to 45 percent. Moreover, when these devices are used for 10 hours, powered down for 14 hours over a 24-hour period, and then connected through Ethernet cables, they offer savings of up to 40 percent and 27 percent energy savings, respectively.
D-Link will expand its Green Ethernet series by shipping the energy-efficient DGS-1016D 16-port and DGS-1024D 24-port high performance rack mountable switches, starting from today.
The company, as part of its Green Ethernet technology initiative, has been developing eco (News - Alert)-friendly products that meet RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives. The RoHS directive inhibits companies from using specific hazardous materials during the manufacture of electrical and electronic goods. WEEE develops standards for proper disposal and recycling of products.
"The safety and integrity of our products are of great concern to us and key to our relationship with customers," Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link Systems, Inc, was quoted as saying in a report. "We were proud to introduce the industry's first Green Ethernet products and are pleased to extend this leadership with the introduction of two higher port density switches.
"We will continue to seek new avenues that protect the environment and help consumers save money by offering energy efficient products," Joe added.
