Dell Joins the Climate Group in Support of Global Carbon Reduction



Continuing with its intentions to become the 'greenest' technology company, Dell (News - Alert) has announced that it joined the non profit organization, The Climate Group, which works with business and government leaders to make global carbon reduction a reality.
 
Dell is the first computer company to join the group and will now have access to the groups working relationships with policy makers in government as well as the ability to contribute to and gain insight from participation in Leadership Groups on Carbon Neutrality and Supply Chain and can now also leverage the groups reach into China and the Asia Pacific region.
 
Gil Casellas, Dell vice president of corporate responsibility commented, "Dell’s commitment to becoming the ‘greenest’ technology company on the planet involves continually seeking ways to reduce our emissions, learn from others and share best practices worldwide. "Working with The Climate Group and other stakeholders demonstrates our commitment to a cleaner Earth and low-carbon economy."
 
Dell announced it was going carbon neutral in 2008, and became "the first major computer manufacturer to commit to neutralizing the carbon impact of its worldwide operations."
 
The company has also said it plans to reduce its carbon intensities, which is already low, by another 15 percent by 2012.
 
Founded in 2004, and with offices in the UK, US, China, India and Australia, The Climate Group's member have demonstrated that the emissions reductions needed to stop climate change can be achieved while boosting profitability and competitiveness.

"The Climate Group is delighted to welcome Dell as the first IT member of our coalition of companies leading on climate change issues," said Chris Walker, North American Director of The Climate Group in a statement to the press.
 
"Dell revolutionized the PC business, and we believe it can do similarly great things for the IT industry's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Dell's extensive product reach into homes and offices creates the potential to make an even greater contribution to creating a low-carbon economy.”
