Younicos, a Berlin-based company, has introduced a mobile storage system that can autonomously supply a modern workstation with power for two to three days. What we need now is a product that will energize the person who is using the workstation for the same amount of time!
Yill is the first of a series of appliances developed by Younicos Younicos—a technology startup with the slogan, “Let the fossils rest in peace.” Styled by German furniture designer Werner Aisslinger—who will be responsible for the look and feel of all Younicos products—Yill is a starkly modern, white monowheel about the size of a bass drum.
Yill can supply 300 watts of electricity without cords or cables through its rechargeable lithium titanium batteries. Because “she” (as the company affectionately refers to its product) stores one kilowatt hour of energy, Yill makes a workstation’s power source mobile, too.
Recharging is simple: just plug her into a station that draws power from renewable sources, or into any normal socket, for about four hours. Because Yill offsets peak loads by storing energy from the power grid, she helps integrate more renewable energy into a company’s network.
At the same time, Yill makes floor socket banks a thing of the past. She enables the spontaneous creation of work groups anywhere, anytime—even in old buildings or lofts in former industrial plants. She lowers construction costs and allows for the optimal use of innovative heating and cooling concepts: Without double floors or suspended ceilings, the core of the building can be activated to use the structure itself as a thermal mass to heat and cool the building.
Weather permitting, Yill will even go outdoors. Using sleek built-in wheels, she can be rolled just about anywhere.
