The City of Gresham, Oregon Deploys Sensus' AquaSense

Sensus, a utility infrastructure company, asserted that the Sensus AquaSense intelligent water management technologies are going to help the City of Gresham, Ore., to promote sustainability and boost operational efficiency.

Beyond metering, the AquaSense water management solution combines the power of Sensus advanced metering technology, software and proven service with the FlexNet communications system. Now one can account for every drop and turn water into revenue through Sensus’ enhanced leak detection and unparalleled data acquisition. FlexNet enables water utilities to use two-way connectivity to monitor and control their entire infrastructure, from the treatment facility to homes and businesses.

"The City realized that by installing a fixed-base communications network, greater efficiency in data acquisition and opportunity for customer access and use could be achieved," said Brian Stahl, water division manager for the City of Gresham. "Intelligent water management furthers the culture of sustainability fostered by Gresham by reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing our stewardship of precious resources."

Sensus explained that AquaSense is a complete water management solution that goes beyond metering to support a long-term vision for water utility operations. With AquaSense technologies, utility companies can monitor their entire distribution system remotely and through one communication system.

Gresham, a sustainability-focused community located near Portland, is one of the first large water utilities in Oregon to install a tower-based advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system. The city hopes to minimize its carbon footprint and enhance its operational efficiencies. The city will be deploying 400 Sensus OMNI commercial water meters to offer intelligent water management system for all its customers. OMNI meters are based on advanced floating ball technology to provide more accurate reading and an extended flow range.

Gresham city officials said they realized that by installing a fixed-base communications network, greater efficiency in data acquisition and opportunity for customer access and use could be achieved. Intelligent water management furthers the culture of sustainability fostered by Gresham by reducing their carbon footprint and enhancing their stewardship of precious resources.
