ECOlunchboxes to Create a Smartphone Game to Promote Green Lunchtime Habits

ECOlunchboxes announced the launch of an innovative campaign which aims to collect funds to develop a fun smartphone game that will teach kids how to make their lunchtime habits ecofriendly.

In a release, Sandra Ann Harris, a mother of two who founded ECOlunchboxes, said, “Lunchtime waste is a mounting problem. But learning to reduce waste and recycle can be a fun challenge. If kids can play our game and win – they’ll know enough to pack a no waste lunch or recycle in real life.”

ECOlunchboxes specializes in no-waste and no-plastic lunchware and was founded in 2008 by Sandra Ann Harris.

It was revealed that the San Francisco Bay Area-based business has developed a concept for a fun eco game for kids. This will enable the sorting of lunch trash into recycling, compost and trash bins. Kids will enjoy working within time using colorful lunchtime waste zipping across the screen. Kids will get entertained by the playful game besides receiving valuable education.

The Lunchbox Waste Study found that a typical American family creates about 4,320 pieces of trash and spends about $400 extra on disposable lunchware each year.

Gabe Zichermann a gamification expert stated, “Kids and adults love to play, and most of us also love to learn, connecting them produces the optimal neurological and emotional pleasure needed to reinforce the right behaviors.”

Zichermann further added that the ECOlunchboxes games were a cool concept which has been leveraged to digital games. Zichermann, who is chair of the Gamification Summit scheduled to take place in New York City in September also emphasized that people often learn their greatest lessons in life on the playground.

ECOlunchboxes is reaching out for support from the eco community to help fund development of the free iPhone (News - Alert) game known as Green Trash Ninja. Development of the no waste lunch game will cost $8,700, so ECOlunchboxes has launched a fund-raising campaign on Indiegogo.com. The game will be available for free to consumers, added Harris.

ECOlunchboxes specializes in making stainless steel lunchware and artisan cotton handmade lunch bags. Its lunchware can be bought from natural groceries, select Whole Foods Markets, The Container Store and The North Face among other stores and online.
