AT&T Sponsoring $20,000 Power Your Future Contest to Encourage the Development of Green Apps



In a bid to encourage the development of apps that supports sustainability in every aspects of mobile-users’ lives, AT&T (News - Alert) has launched the "Power Your Future" application contest. The challenge allows the software developers to submit up to five apps for consideration.

In a press release, the communication giant said that Power Your Future mobile application contest is open to software developers. The apps must be developed in iOS, Android (News - Alert) or for any of AT&T's HTML5 compatible phones.

The contest invites the entries that deliver specific environmental or energy efficient benefit. The AT&T customers as well as general will vote to select eight finalists. In addition of casting just a digital vote, customers will also have the opportunity to provide specific feedback about why they voted for an application. AT&T will be preloading the winning apps on future AT&T smartphones, AT&T announced in the release.

The winner of the contest will be honored at the 2012 AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas in January and will receive airfare and lodging. Winner receives $20,000 and the first runner-up will receive $5,000.

Starting August 1, developers are invited to enter up to five apps. Details are available at http://att.promo.eprize.com/app. Apps may be submitted until Sept. 28 with voting beginning Oct. 11.

“We are pleased to see developers extending their talents to create apps for the greater good, and designed this contest specifically to encourage that development. Doing this in a way that engages customers so they can tell us what they find to be the most innovative and useful is even better,” vice president, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets noted in a statement.

In a press release, AT&T announced that as part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, the company has activated a new mobile broadband cell site in Lake Harmony that will enhance coverage for area residents and businesses along portions of Routes 534, 476 and 903.
