Panasonic (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of electronic products for consumer, business and industrial needs, announced it will start its total energy solution test-bed project for public housing in Singapore.
The first-of-its kind test-bed project from Panasonic will be launched in Singapore by the end of 2011 and will run till 2013.
Panasonic has entered into partnerships with three local government agencies in Singapore to provide greener urban sustainability solutions to existing public housing, in an eco town which has been marked as ‘living lab’ in Singapore.
The diversified electronics company’s photovoltaic systems will be installed to supply renewable energy to power common facilities, according to a press statement.
The project is aiming to challenge zero emissions target. Its Home Energy Management System (HEMS) is expected to help households monitor and manage energy consumption via an in-home display which are provided as part of the test-bed project.
Leveraging Panasonic’s Smart Energy Gateway (News
- Alert) (SEG) which connects the smart meter and home appliances such as air conditioners, demand response will be achieved. The HEMS will be connected to the government-owned smart meters and smart grid technology in order to enhance the efficiency and resilience of Singapore’s power system.
A kick-off ceremony was held in Singapore to officiate the launch. The program was attended by Panasonic’s president Fumio Ohtsubo and Yorihisa Shiokawa, managing director of Panasonic Asia Pacific, as well as executives from the government agencies in Singapore.
Recently, Panasonic introduced VIERA Connect Developers, a public Web portal, to invite IPTV (News
- Alert) application developers to write applications for its VIERA Connect cloud-based TV service.
Developers, with the help of this new portal, will be allowed to take advantage of quick response and rich multimedia HD expression capabilities of its VIERA Connect platform.
