Greenlight Planet, a solar energy company based in the U.S. is focused on offering clean, safe, affordable energy to under-served energy consumers.
The company has launched two new products in the sub-Saharan Africa market namely the Sun King Mobile and Sun King Pro2.
Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa and the Central African Republic will all benefit from these products.
The two new products can provide bright, night time lighting for homes that are presently using paraffin lanterns. Also, these products can power a user’s mobile phone with solar energy. The devices are based on proprietary technology and are suitable for use in a rural marketplace. Also, the products come with a 5-year battery that works on Ferro Phosphate battery technology.
Subscribers in Africa depend on mobile connectivity as it can optimize connectivity in rural communities across Africa. Mobile coverage caters to various needs such as banking, healthcare and employment services. In most cases, people have to walk long distances to charge their mobile phones due to a lack of electricity supply and also have to pay for charging.
The Sun King Pro2 is an advanced version of solar lamps. It can deliver double the brightness when compared to most other solar lanterns and can charge two standard mobile phones per day while providing bright night time lighting.
Greenlight Planet will recruit and train over 3,000 micro-entrepreneurs called Sun King business associates in Kenya and Uganda to make available Sun King products to off-grid families besides boosting household incomes by 40 percent in these communities.
