APR Energy Signs Turnkey Project in Myanmar

APR Energy, a company that provides fast-track power solutions, recently announced that it has signed a turnkey project to provide 82 megawatts (MW) of power generation to Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE). The project will be based in Kyaukse, in the Mandalay Region, and will provide power to more than six million people.

Fueled by natural gas, the APR Energy solution will be one of the cleanest power generation solutions in Myanmar. The contract is due to commence in the second quarter of 2014 and is expected to run through to late 2015. APR Energy claims that it has become the first US-based company to sign a contract with the government of Myanmar since the lifting of sanctions in 2013.

“We are delighted to have won this contract, based on our ability to optimize the use of natural gas resources in a fast, efficient, and effective manner,” said John Campion, APR Energy's chief executive officer. “Today, three-quarters of Myanmar’s population is without access to electricity. This contract will create one of the biggest thermal plants in the country, enabling the provision of light and power to more than six million people. Together with our recent installation of 130MW of new power generation in Indonesia, the Myanmar project is a great example of the real traction we are seeing in the Asia Pacific region since opening our Malaysia hub and Singapore commercial office.”

Last year, APR Energy announced a 200MW expansion of its original 250MW contract in Libya. According to a release, the expansion, which brings the contracted total generation capacity to 450MW, supplements the 250MW of mobile gas turbines originally contracted. The turnkey power solution will help cover anticipated power demand during the critical summer high heat season, as well as provide interim power while the country continues to rebuild and improve its infrastructure.
