Industrial safety and commercial telecom eyewear provider Energy Telecom announced this week that it has been granted a patent for its newest safety glass product, which monitors and supports hazardous biometric conditions,” according to a statement released by the company. The “Zone of Safety” feature uses wireless sensors that detect the movement (or lack thereof) of the eyewear user and has the ability to report potentially harmful conditions to the person wearing the glasses and remote locations, according to a notice by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

"In the world of managing threats to those at work and at play in potentially harmful conditions, we believe establishing an entire Zone of Safety around the wireless telecom eye wear allows the user to focus on the task at hand, providing maximum productivity at work and enjoyment of leisure time,” Tom Rickards, president of Energy Telecom, said.

Energy Telecom’s line of eyewear also includes the world’s first hands-free, wireless communication eyewear and is designed to be worn while using cell phones and music players. The company also manufactures noise-reducing and safety eyewear. At CES (News - Alert) 2014, Energy Telecom launched the Blaupunkt stereo Bluetooth eyewear for sale in the mobile entertainment market along with its manufacturing partners.

Another safety eyewear provider has released some big news of its own this week: Tinley Park, IL-based Eyelation, Inc., which sets up on-site kiosks where employees can obtain prescription safety eyewear at manufacturing plants across the U.S., has received $1.3 million in funding from Chicago-based angel investing group IrishAngels. As a result of the deal, IrishAngels’ Jordan Curnes will join the board of Eyelation.

“As Eyelation continues to grow, we value having good people around us that want to help drive success,” CEO and Founder Bradley Kirschner said in a statement. “We have been fortunate in that regard and look forward to a bright future.”
