Flextronics (News - Alert) and Powermat Technologies recently announced a collaborative partnership to bring wireless power to all types of electronics and to consumers across the globe. Powermat Technologies has already established its position as a leader within the quickly expanding wireless power industry. The company's solutions are used by a number of leading global brands such as Starbucks, AT&T (News - Alert), Procter & Gamble, and General Motors. The company's technology solutions have also been incorporated and used as a base by the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) -- the fastest growing wireless power standard and ecosystem in the world -- for its own open standard.

"We have concluded that wireless power is the next big wave in mobility,” said Chris Cook, president of Flextronics Power. “Starting with smart phones and tablets, this new technology will eventually transform how people charge electronics of all kinds. We plan to bring our unmatched scale and know-how to ensure PMA technology is ramped-up, costed-down, and rolled out in a way that brings excellent value to both customers and end users."

Flextronics is a leading provider of complete and robust supply chain solutions for electronics across the globe. The company specializes in designing and manufacturing devices which are used by billions of consumers in the world. Flextronics Power, which is the power supply division of the company, has consolidated its position as a leader within the mobile charging industry. The division will make use of its comprehensive research, manufacturing, development, and IP expertise to bring advanced wireless power to applications and mobile devices such as smartphones, notebooks, tablets, and wearable electronics.

"Staying powered is the number one concern for mobile consumers, and the data shows that wireless power resolves this at home, in the car and while refreshing at popular coffee shops and restaurants,” said Ran Poliakine, CEO of Powermat Technologies. “The next stage is to deliver this technology to OEMs and through them to consumers at scale, and this is exactly what our partnership with Flextronics promises to do."

Both companies also expect to use the synergies across their organizations to drive miniaturization, enable substantial cost-reduction, and improve efficiency and integration for their existing and new product platforms.
