Solar Power Gets a New Set of Wheels: Ford Intros C-MAX Solar Energi Concept



The society we live in today is overwhelmingly supportive of the “going green” movement. Whether it is cutting down on electricity use in the home or making an extra effort to recycle, saving the environment is a priority of many. It is no wonder, then, that it’s commonplace to see so many hybrid cars on the road, in an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and thus reduce our carbon footprint. The Ford Motor company is taking this concept a step further with the unveiling of the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept, which utilizes the power of the run without the need for an electrical outlet for charging.

The use of solar power to harness and utilize energy has brought much acclaim, it was only a matter of time before it entered the automobile industry. “Instead of powering its battery from an electrical outlet, Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Concept harnesses the power of the sun by using a special concentrator that acts like a magnifying glass, directing intense rays to solar panels on the vehicle roof,” the company stated, revealing this concept as a game changer within the industry, forever the revolutionizing the hybrid car world.

If the Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Concept goes into production, this may raise the stakes for many other automobile company wishes to make a profit within the hybrid car realm. Other hybrids such as GM's Chevy Volt as well as all-electric vehicles (EVs) like Tesla's Model S sedan and the Nissan Leaf may be shaking in their boots, yet it is too soon to tell – the overall success of Ford’s C-MAX Solar Energi Concept may depend on pricing and how reliable the car will really be.

Ford plans to reveal this concept at the CES (News - Alert) Conference, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada from Jan. 7-10 2014.
