Tesla Model S Receives 99 out 100 from Owners According to Consumer Report

The past several weeks have been rough for Elon Musk and his motorcar company, Tesla. The stock was the darling of Wall Street a little over a month ago, but now it has dropped 37 percent since the first of October and stands at little over $121 today. The downfall was caused by three fires on the Model S in the past six weeks, and the announcement of a federal investigation of a potential fire risk in the vehicle. With so much bad news, Elon and the company were bound to get some good news, and it came in the form of a Consumer Report survey in which the Model S owners gave the car the highest rating the magazine has seen in years, 99 out of a 100.

The coverage of the fires should not detract any of the potential buyers of the $70,000 plus vehicle. The Model S has received top safety ratings in crash test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and discounting the fires the car has been very successful.

The Model S "stands out for its innovative design, outstanding performance, and surprising practicality," Consumer Reports director of automotive testing Jake Fisher said.

Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine both named the Model S "Car of the Year" in 2012, and Consumer Reports also gave it very high test scores earlier this year saying it was one of the best cars it has ever tested by giving it the same scores as the owners, 99 out of 100.

A total of 600 respondents of Model S owners were part of the survey and it is safe to say they enjoy their environmentally friendly sports car.

Elon Musk has said the car doesn't represent more danger than gasoline-powered vehicles and the fires occurred only 25 percent as often compared to those powered by gas.

Although the exact cause of the fires hasn’t been determined yet, two of the three incidents took place when they ran over objects on the road they were traveling in. The owners of the vehicles were not harmed, and they were able to pull over and get out of the car before the fires consumed the vehicles.
