Green Tech Promoted in 15 African Countries by ZTE

ZTE (News - Alert) Corporation has announced that it is currently working with governments and enterprises across 15 African countries to help deploy renewable solar energy. These countries include Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Niger.

The company is working to help provide both governments and businesses across Africa with the sources necessary to meet power needs for households, communication systems and mobile power sources. By doing so, the company is bringing light to thousands of homes and business across the continent.

To make this enormous project work, ZTE is using a variety of green energy products. Among the products being used are solar lighting systems, mobile solar power systems, solar power for base stations and solar power for lighting systems in homes.

Oumarou Dogari Moumouni, the mayor of Niger’s capitol Niamey, says, “The solar street lighting project constructed by ZTE is one of the best renewable energy projects that exists in Niger.”

All across Africa there are constant power shortages. These shortages leave more than 580 million people lighting their homes with kerosene, which is harmful to their health as well as the environment.

Kerosene fumes are toxic and can cause several kinds of maladies. The smoke irritates airways and eyes and can lead to cataracts and respiratory illnesses. In Africa it is not uncommon to hear of a home burning to the ground because the family was using a kerosene lamp for light.

Wang Yiwen, ZTE CTO of Government and Enterprise business in the Middle East and Africa region explains that, “ZTE’s cooperation with governments and businesses throughout Africa is providing both economic and social benefits across the region. We are helping African countries maximize the power of their local resources and use renewable energy in a number of innovative ways.”

ZTE is a global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions. It delivers innovative, custom-made products and services to over 500 operators in 140 countries. The company is China's only listed telecom manufacturer that is publicly traded.
