Itron, Inc. announced today its release of the Intelis residential ultrasonic water device. The device is based on the latest measurement technology and advanced sensing. It features integrated communication modules that will assist water utilities in better measurement, and aid in analyzing water usage.
Water scarcity has become a prominent issue. Water is one of our most critical natural resources and it is facing major issues in both consumption and supply. Water is everywhere on Earth, but we can drink or irrigate with only 1 percent of it. Each year there is less because we are consuming potable water at unprecedented rates, and also because climate change is shrinking the world’s supply. With its Intelis residential ultrasonic water device Itron plans to add visibility to water distribution systems.
Gavin van Tonder, president of Itron’s water business, says, “The Intelis ultrasonic water meter is the most advanced water measurement device available today. By combining ultrasonic, sensing and communication technologies, we’ve created a device that gives utilities unprecedented visibility into their distribution systems so they can better manage water resources. As a global leader in water utility automation solutions, Itron is committed to creating products that meet our customers’ needs so they can address the various challenges they face.”
The new meter has data logging capabilities and records consumption at configurable intervals. The meter also measures and captures flow rates data and temperature. It can also detect air in the pipes.
The water meter is designed in an eco-friendly way. It can be installed in areas that are flooded or in spots that are exposed to direct sunlight. The meter also addresses unplanned maintenance costs and optimizes the ability to recycle its components.
Itron is headquartered in Liberty Lake, Wash., producing electricity, gas, water and heat meters along with data collection and utility software solutions.
