The Z-Wave Alliance, a consortium of companies in the home technology space dedicated to solidifying Z-Wave as the standard for wireless home control products, recently announced that it has received the certification of the 900th interoperable Z-Wave product.
The new ZSMOKE, which is made by BRK Brands, Inc., features a notification capability. In case of a fire break-out, ZSMOKE will send an alert signal to Z-Wave-based home control gateways, which in turn can alert homeowners via a text on their smartphone, enabling quick reactions from customer.
"The Alliance congratulates First Alert for achieving this smart home landmark," said Z-Wave Alliance Chairman, Mark Walters. "For Z-Wave, the milestones keep coming at an ever increasing pace. It was only four months ago that we announced the 800th certified Z-Wave product, and just 8 months before that for the 700th product. The growth of Z-Wave has followed the exponential growth of the smart home market because to a great extent, Z-Wave products and services are defining that market. We look forward to continuing our leadership in every sphere of the emerging smart home space and the Internet of Things."
"As the most trusted and recognized brand in home safety, we're proud to have released this connected smoke alarm as the 900th Z-Wave product. In addition, we at First Alert have released another product, in the form of a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, and we look forward to developing more products that utilize Z-Wave technology," says Sara DeLuca, product manager at First Alert.
Z-Wave Alliance recently congratulated member company Sigma Designs (News - Alert) on the introduction of the company's next-generation Z-Wave platform. The new product portfolio from Sigma Designs enables Z-Wave manufacturers and smart home service providers to bring new products to market substantially faster and at lower cost, with customizable reference designs and new hardware featuring higher performance and more memory.
