Evernote and Telefonica Bring Mobile Phone Customers 'Total Recall'

Why not just have our smartphones implanted surgically and be done with it? Now there’s an app that will remember all “important information” for us, so we don’t have to tax our brains even a little—and Vivo mobile phone customers in Brazil are getting a free, one-year-trial.

On August 13, Telefónica Digital, a subsidiary of Brazil’s largest telecommunications company, and Evernote, a U.S.-based provider of apps that “help the world remember everything,” announced they had formed a global partnership that would “bring productivity to more than 250 million Telefónica mobile customers across the globe”

Under the strategic agreement, customers of participating Telefónica operating businesses worldwide will receive complimentary one-year Evernote (News - Alert) Premium accounts.

Evernote helps users keep all of the information that’s important to them at their fingertips. With Evernote, users can quickly create written notes and to-do lists and capture photos on the go. Those important thoughts and images are then synched as Evernote Notes across personal devices like smart phones, PCs and tablets.

The upgraded features of the premium version of the app include:

  • Offline notebooks (great for travel);
  • Collaborative tools;
  • A passcode lock for an extra layer of protection on mobile devices;
  • An extra 1 gigabyte of monthly upload capacity; and
  • Smarter search capabilities, including the option to search inside PDFs and attached documents.

The partnership kicks off immediately in Brazil through an agreement with Telefónica local mobile brand Vivo. To take advantage of this special limited offer, current Vivo customers can redeem the promotion by downloading Evernote on iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices supported by Evernote. Each customer can redeem just one Evernote Premium offer.

“Our goal is to make people smarter by creating a product that transcends local cultures and tastes while increasing productivity,” said Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote. “We are excited to launch a partnership with Telefónica, one of the leading telecommunications companies in the world, which allows us to bring our products to millions of mobile customers across the globe. By starting our partnership in Brazil, we are able to tap into Vivo’s vast mobile market presence and continue Evernote’s incredible growth in this important country.”

”We are delighted to be able to offer our customers around the world this great service free for a year. Our customers have consistently told us that they desire services that make their life better beyond connectivity.  Evernote does just this, but connects personal and business information in a way that actually makes it useable and findable,” commented Wayne Thorsen, vice president of Global Partnerships of Telefónica Digital.

“This agreement reflects Telefónica Vivo’s commitment to bringing innovative services to its customers. With this exclusive service, Vivo can offer customers one more point of differentiation, besides the best quality and most extensive coverage,” stated Roberto Piazza, head of Telefónica Digital Brazil.
