Capgemini to Support Consumers Energy Company's Smart Energy Program

Capgemini (News - Alert) recently announced that it has entered into a large contract with Consumers Energy Company to support the latter’s Smart Energy Program. Following the contract, Capgemini will be engaged in implementing smart metering technology and related architecture. The Smart Energy Program involves installing 600,000 gas and 1.8 million electric Advanced Metering Infrastructure in Consumers Energy’s service region.


Following the development, Capgemini’s Application Services team in North America will lead the program with strategic support from Itron and SAP (News - Alert) to deliver the $750 million program for Consumers Energy. Itron will contribute to the program by providing the meter data management solution and cellular-based network communication application, while SAP will contribute to architectural development and provide quality assurance services.

In a statement, Perry Stoneman, corporate vice president of Capgemini, said, “We are very excited to deliver this AMI program for Consumers Energy because it clearly puts the end customers first, giving them more choices and control over their energy consumption. We were able to create a winning solution based on our ‘One Team’ approach and services that provide added value. Consumers Energy is a significant customer for us and together we want to drive a successful relationship.”

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure program will enable Consumers Energy to improve its customer service efforts by allowing the company to ensure 100 percent accuracy in billing and enhance its ability to respond to outages in the least possible time. The company will also be able to deliver economical solutions to customers to effectively save money and energy.

Speaking of the new development, Patti Poppe, vice president of customer experience and operations at Capgemini, said, “Through this program, Consumers Energy will enhance our operational capabilities and create new ways to provide customer value. Capgemini has a strong understanding of these programs and their expertise will be invaluable as we collaborate in a process to enhance our customer service.”
