EPA Hands out Grants to Research Environment and Air Quality

The United States EPA announced that it has issued more than $4.3 million over 13 different grants that are all geared towards studying and improving the understanding of how several different organic compounds form in our atmosphere. The final goal of these many studies is to help the federal government better understand how to regulate and improve air quality in the United States. This is just the latest in a series of moves by the Obama administration when it comes to the environment.

The beginning of the year has seen the government embrace several different projects that are all geared towards improving the country’s standing in the world when it comes to the environment. Whether talking about green jobs or simply understanding the effects of weather and other situations on our technology and our world, there has long been a need to improve from the U.S.

Global warming is no longer dismissed as a myth by most trusted scientists, thanks in large part to more severe weather and other signs of decay in our ecosystem. Part of these new studies will look into what the country can do in order to reverse some of the damage that has been caused. Most of the data the studies look at will be dedicated to making sure that our air is cleaner and more breathable, as well as finding out why when it isn’t.

Lek Kadeli, principal deputy assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Research and Development, issued a statement talking about the grants that were handed out, saying, “By working together, we will be able to improve the accuracy of the air models that are used by states to develop plans to reduce air pollution and meet air quality standards. This research will also lead to more accurate climate models as we continue to study the impacts of climate change.”
