Sims Recycling Solutions of Jebel Ali Forms Agreement with Microsoft

Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) is an electrical and electronics reuse and recycling company that delivers environmentally-responsible solutions and global services throughout Europe, America and APAC to meet with local requirements and business needs. Last year, it opened a new facility in Jebel Ali, a city southwest of Dubai, to give the community an opportunity to make more environmentally-friendly choices when it comes to not only recycling domestic waste, but also providing proper IT disposal of equipment like PCs and other end of life products, such as electronics.

SRS’s recycling services operating in Jebel Ali host the Middle East Region’s first and only fully compliant recycling and reuse facility, confirms the company. SRS explains it is doing what it needs to bring “green-friendly” solutions to that area by offering clients valuable services, much like those in the U.S., that help keep more electronic waste (e-waste) out of landfills and recycle “e-cycle” items in order to take care of the material in an environmentally responsible manner.

In the same way, SRS of Jebel Ali brings simple green solutions to the Dubai people with a chance to recycle, reuse or resell their old IT assets in an environmentally friendly, beneficial way, as well as offer secure software destruction and data where necessary.

Last week, the company based in Jebel Ali signed an agreement with Microsoft (News - Alert) that allows it to supply refurbished computers and servers preinstalled with genuine Microsoft software to organizations and people in need.

As Philip Hughes (News - Alert), managing director, Middle East, explains, SRS chose to partner with Microsoft because of its conscious recycling solution that utilizes environmentally sustainable best practices when refurbishing computers. Not only is the software giant a professional supplier that can be trusted to wipe systems clean, but it provides renovated systems, pre-loaded with a fully licensed version of Windows and will include the latest features and updates for all machines. Hughes believes that this ultimately helps SRS improve IT asset buyback and recycling, which comes at great value and maximizes return.

“At least for the company in Jebel Ali, this formed partnership with Microsoft to have refurbished PCs preinstalled with their own software, provides affordable technology and other innovative offerings to the Middle East marketplace," expressed Chris Acker, WW director at Microsoft. This allows those in the region to “build their own Value Add solutions in Partnership with SRS,” Hughes added.

As per Microsoft’s OEM Refurbisher team, the authorized program caters to the OEM market to reduce e-waste worldwide. Those that take part in Microsoft’s OEM Refurbisher Program become members, just like Blair Technology Group did last year, and acquire refurbished PCs with an operating system preinstalled. This creates a new world of possibilities for SRS in Jebel Ali, for example, to be able to reach out to channel partners in other places that have the same interest of replacing old or no longer used PCs for spare parts and systems to support their clients, if not to establish a network of reseller partner opportunities in the region for themselves.
