Having a positive impact on the environment is more important now than ever before. Over the past few years, the environment has become increasingly important to Staples (News - Alert) Advantage, the business-to-business division of Staples, and claims to be now a key business priority.

During Earth Week, Staples Advantage Canada announced a number of environmentally focused programs aimed at practicing and promoting sustainable business across the country.

"We are committed to sustainability in all areas of our business," Michael Zahra, president, Staples Advantage Canada, said in a statement. "The programs will allow associates and customers alike to take part in our initiatives. We believe that if we can make it easier for people to be environmentally responsible, we all win.”

Staples Advantage has introduced and implemented several programs and initiatives to improve its environmental footprint, including the use of oxo-degradable delivery bags, Fifty Green program, Green Pledge and incorporating sustainability into its culture through the roll-out of Staples Soul.

On Earth Day 2013, the company launched the Integrated Rated Indicator for Sustainability (IRIS), an interactive tracking tool developed by Loop used to set goals, track progress and visually report on its sustainability initiatives to all its stakeholders.

Its all-new 2013 Green Guide, launched on Earth Day, features more than 2,000 products with environmental attributes and is available on its online ordering site. The company also confirmed that it will also be re-launching its "Sustainable Earth by Staples" toner promotion. For every Sustainable Earth by Staples remanufactured toner purchased from May 1st to July 31st, $1 will be donated to Evergreen to support its community greening efforts.

Moreover, the company’s Fifty Green program encourages its customers to help reduce the impact on the environment by reducing the number of deliveries to their location through combining orders that in turn improves its operational efficiencies. This year, Staples Advantage said it will be dedicating half of the proceeds from the Fifty Green initiative to fund Tree Canada's School Greening Program, where Staples will help 10 schools across the country.

Staples recently also announced increase in recycling, innovative new green products and reduced energy consumption as part of its corporate sustainability report. The achievements are part of the retailer's long-term commitment to growing the business in a sustainable manner and reducing its impact on the environment.
