Rogers Communications (News - Alert), a diversified communications and media company in Canada, has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2013 by Mediacorp Canada, Inc. The company provides wireless voice and data communications services in addition to cable TV, high-speed Internet and telephony services.
Nadir Mohamed, president and CEO of Rogers Communications said, “We are honored to be recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers. We take pride in actively engaging Rogers’ employees in environmentally responsible programs aimed at reducing our environmental footprint.”
The award has been given in recognition of Rogers’ endeavors to be as eco-friendly as possible in the workplace. The company also motivates employees proactively to participate in meaningful activities that will bring about positive environmental change.
The Rogers Voluntary Environmental Steering Committee and company employees worked in tandem to launch several green initiatives, including reducing energy consumption, striving to limit greenhouse gas emissions and augmenting recycling efforts.
The work undertaken by the company also includes reducing paper consumption by advocating less internal printing and encouraging customers to register for online billing, as well as directing electronic and IT waste from landfills via programs like Phones for Food.
Rogers also leverages GPS technology in its trucks to monitor engine idle times, thereby improving fuel-efficiency. Such initiatives helped achieve the Civic Action Alliance’s Race to Reduce Award for Action and Innovation by the Brampton office, said officials. In 2013, Rogers has plans to pilot a waste-management program at select sites that will further reduce office waste by increasing its employees’ recycling efforts.
In related company news, Rogers Communications announced the launch of the Rogers Anyplace TV on-demand app for LG Smart TVs. This is the first on-demand video app of its kind in Canada, which authenticates to Rogers customer accounts via Smart TVs. Rogers Communications and Rogers Media are engaged in radio and television broadcasting, televised shopping, magazines and trade publications, sports entertainment and digital media.Edited by Rory J.
