Capstone (News - Alert) Turbine Corporation, a clean-technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced that it has won orders totaling five megawatts from one of its Mexican distributors, DTC Soluciones Inmobiliarias SA de CV.

The systems will be supplied for Key CHP and CCHP Projects.

DTC will supply all the systems to its industrial customers in Mexico. The distributor is planning to commission all of these projects over the next six months.

As a result, DTC will have considerable projects to its installed fleet of microturbines under service, in addition to its Mexican base.

Jim Crouse, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Capstone, said, “DTC has been a valuable partner for Capstone in Mexico. Their investments into developing their Capstone business are truly paying dividends with this recent group of high-profile orders.”

All the microturbine energy systems will feature the efficiency of the Capstone microturbine technology, which uses the waste exhaust in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Of all the orders, the largest one is a 2.6MW project for a combined cooling heating and power (CCHP) plant for the manufacturing facility of a global leader in plastic and aluminum closure systems, based in northern Mexico. The system will produce hot and chilled water for the CCHP system from the exhaust.

This order opens the door for many more opportunities as the customer is a multinational provider with dozens of plants worldwide.

The other customer is a Mexican pharmaceutical manufacturer located in Guadalajara, which will install a 1MW project at its Guadalajara plant. The “dual mode” of the microturbine will provide the plant with power security so that it works even in the absence of a local power grid. A manufacturer of packaging Material, an existing Capstone customer in central Mexico will install a 200kW microturbine to its existing 600kW microturbine CHP plant, which was commissioned in October 2012.

The unique modular design of the Capstone C1000 Series solution makes it easier for the customer to expand. Additionally, a ceramic tile and flooring manufacturer will also install three 65 kW microturbines running on propane, while utilizing the exhaust directly in the facility's drying ovens.

Capstone was in the news recently when the company added the U.S. coal bed methane market to its portfolio of oil and gas applications, with the installation of methane-fueled C200 at a CONSOL Energy gas processing plant in Pennsylvania.
