Outdoor Channel and Time Warner Cable Partner for NYC Conservation Effort

Outdoor Channel Corps has entered into a partnership with Time Warner Cable to restore and improve public lands and spaces in order to ensure that the outdoor lifestyle thrives in communities across America.

Through partnerships with organizations such as the Boy Scouts and Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable, Outdoor Channel aims to mobilize local outdoor enthusiasts and make lasting impacts on the communities it serves across the U.S. Time Warner Cable is looking to raise awareness about conservation in Staten Island through its Connect A Million Minds initiative, which exposes young people to the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Outdoor Channel HD is available to area residents of Staten Island, NY through Time Warner Cable on Channel 480. Time Warner Cable's New York City service area includes Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and western Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, NY, as well as Bergen and Hudson Counties in New Jersey.

Stretching across 143 acres, William H. Pouch Scout Camp (Pouch Camp), a privately owned Boy Scout camp, recently received funding from the Harbor Estuary Fund, administered by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, Councilman Vincent Ignizio (R-South Shore) and Councilman James Oddo (R-Mid-Island) to preserve 44 acres of land, which includes miles of hiking trails, a gorgeous 17-acre lake and surrounding waterfront.

This year's event will also include an appearance by David Johansen, also known as Buster Poindexter, who is most famous for his 1982 hit single, "Hot Hot Hot."

Pouch Camp is an integral part of the area's scouting community. Last year, the event successfully removed invasive species throughout the camp grounds, and this activity will also be the primary focus of this year's initiative, as an effort to keep Pouch Camp in top condition for the scouts, New York City youth and other visitors. Moreover, volunteers will plant saplings along the grounds in support the City of New York's Parks & Recreation department's MillionTreesNYC initiative, a sustainability project set forth under Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (News - Alert) with the goal of planting one million trees across New York City by the year 2017.

Members of the committee to Save Pouch Camp will be available to discuss the preservation efforts. Free "Save Pouch" lawns signs will also be available for pick-up as well as the committee's brochure.

Recently, Outdoor Channel appointed Lorey Zlotnick as its Senior Vice President of Marketing. The appointment is effective immediately and Zlotnick will report directly to Tom Hornish, Outdoor Channel's president and CEO. Based out of Los Angeles, Zlotnick will leverage her 20-plus years of entertainment, sports and digital industry experience to develop, manage and implement all marketing and branding initiatives in support of Outdoor Channel's network and multiplatform portfolio.
